The National Health Insurance Board (NHIB) was formally established as an independent statutory Body. The Board of Directors will exercise the powers, rights, authorities and functions conferred upon the Board for the management of the operations of the country's National Health Insurance Plan (NHIP).
Accordingly, the twelve (12) persons who have been appointed to the board as follows:
• Mr. John Smith - Chairman of the Board, nominated by the Minister by virtue of his knowledge and experience in matters relating to insurance and financial management
• Hon. Kurt Defreitas - Attorney General or his representative
• Dr. Rufus Ewing - Director of Health Services
• Mr. Delton Jones - Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance or his representative
• Mrs. Judith Campbell - Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Human Services
• Mr. Trevor Cooke - Director of the National Insurance Board or his representative
• Mr. Brian Hogan - The Chief Executive Officer of the NHI Board
• Dr. Sam Slattery - nominated by the Turks and Caicos Medical Association, representing private providers of health care in the Turks & Caicos Islands
• George Commander - nominated by Interhealth Canada, the preferred health care provider
• Mrs. Madeline Mills - nominated by the Minister as the employee representative, representing employed persons
• Ms. Beverly Williams - nominated by the Turks & Caicos Hotel & Tourism Association (TCHTA), representing employers
• Mr. Wilbur Caley - nominated by the Leader of the Opposition, representing the Opposition
The NHI Board of Directors will serve for two years with the exception of the Chairman of the Board who will serve a three-year term.
